HMIP Scrutiny Visits to Children in Young Offender Institutions During (COVID 19)



Peter Clarke, HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, said “This is a generally positive report, which details the swift actions taken to keep children safe, as well as the creativity of staff and managers in providing opportunities for children to receive meaningful interaction. Crucially, cases of COVID-19 have been contained effectively with little impact on the wider establishments. However, there are some key inconsistencies between establishments that need addressing: the provision of education, activity, additional phone credit and video calling.”
