Our work with HMPPS recently aimed to mitigate practitioner bias when writing pre-sentence reports by recognising and understanding how culture, ethnicity and trauma contribute to the way individuals interact within the criminal justice system.

The training was intended to increase understanding of the importance of cultural competence and normalise conversations around bias, how it can show up in our work, and how a greater level of cultural awareness can mitigate the negative impact of bias in court work and for people on probation.
