Course One: Working With Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Young People

 Working with young people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities and understanding their needs is often a complex and multi-layered process. BAME young people often experience statutory and voluntary organisations that are unable to respond effectively to their needs. The aim of this one-day training is for participants to have greater confidence in understanding the key skills needed when working with BAME young people.

About this course

By the end of the training day, staff will have a greater understanding of the needs of young BAME young people increasing the practitioner’s confidence to deliver meaningful care.

During this course you will learn how to:

  • Understand the experiences of BAME children and families within the UK
  • Explore the role of the practitioner working with BAME young people
  • Explore BAME young people within statutory services
  • Shaping internal policies to reflect the needs of BAME young people

This training is only available to organisations with a minimum requirement of 10 participants.


Course Two: Understanding Gangs and Serious Youth Violence

This one day training course has been designed to up-skill practitioners by exploring the historical and current context surrounding youth gangs and serious youth violence in addition to exploring evidenced based practice and ‘what works’ in order to develop meaningful interventions.

Statutory organisations, key stakeholders and voluntary community organisations working with young people involved in or affected by gangs, should be supported to develop their understanding in order to deliver models of best practice and interventions which can make a difference.

About this course

Staff attending will have a greater understanding of the history, current landscape, complex issues, specific risks, and best practice surrounding youth gangs and serious youth violence. This will help to develop each practitioners overall effectiveness and practice when working with young people involved in or affected by gangs and serious youth violence.

During this course you will learn how to:

  • Understand the history of youth gangs within the UK
  • Explore Theoretical perspectives
  • Understand how to safeguarding gang affected young people
  • Explore the mental health needs of young people involved in gangs
  • Understand Street Capital
